apaçık saklı

“apaçık saklı” (eng. meaning close to: obviously hidden) is a photo-series in which the artist touches on a confrontation process of childhood and growing up while sometimes watching suspended and veiled in silence and sometimes mocking this reality in freedom. She questions the "self" in the self-portrait. With long exposures and superimpositions, Önal tries to blur the lines between space and her body while trying to embrace her obscure identity and fluctuations of being. The series was turned into a photobook published in 2022 January by ONAGÖRE*.
There are also concepts of memory and space in play. In her own words:

“Distress… I search for myself far away. The rest is silence, absence. My grandmother sits on the chair on which I am sitting now. She utters ‘There you are singing it!’. I don’t know what I am humming. There is no such a song. Distress… My silence belongs to me.”
